Malala Yousafzai was born in Mingora, Pakistan, July, 12, 1997. She grew up in the very dangerous area of Swat Valley, at least for part of her life. For the first few years her home town was a great tourist site. After a few years, the Taliban had tried to take over. Her home town soon became a battlefield.
One day when Malala was coming home from school and a gun man shot her in the head because she had been speaking out against the Taliban, Malala was 15. A few days after the gun shooting Malala was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, located in Birmingham, England. She recovered there. The Taliban had also tried to assassinate Malala and her dad, Ziauddin Yousafzai. Malla healed, but half of her face is a little bit droopy because the bullet hit some of her nerves.
Malala is 18 now and is an activist. She has won many awards like the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, the Mother Terasa Awards, and the United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights.
