In Amsterdam, Mr. Frank owned a business called Opekta. It was in a building and that would soon be the Frank's new hideout home. On July 5 Margot received a letter to be sent to a work camp. At this time, Adolf Hitler had taken over the government and was invading places in Europe like Germany, The Netherlands, and Austria. Hitler did not want Judaism because he hated communism. He thought communism was a threat to Germany. Since he thought that the Jews had something to do with communism, he hated them. Mr. and Mrs. Frank didn’t send Margot. They went into hiding, so the Nazis would not find them because they were jews.
They moved into the secret annex in the building of Mr. Frank's business. They hid in the little annex and couldn’t go outside at all. Anne dreamed about going back outside. Anne had a Diary she named Kitty. Kitty was her best friend when she was hiding out. Anne wrote in Kitty all the time.
While they were living in the Annex, some of Mr. Frank’s business workers helped them survive. Miss Miep Gies would go out to the grocery store and get food because she was not a jew and she would not be hurt because of that.
Mr. and Mrs. van Pels and their son Peter soon moved into the AnnexThe children would eat and then learn lessons together in the annex. This daily routine went on. They had certain times when they could do things, so they would be a secret.
On August 4, 1944, the Franks and the van Pels were found. They were taken to a concentration camp in Poland. They were put to work there and they were also separated from their dad, Otto. A few days after arriving, Margot and Anne were separated from their mom, Edith. They would never see her again.
Anne died in the March of 1945, but her spirit and story still lives on. Anne had always wanted to be a writer and in 1951 her diary, kitty, was published in English and her book is still alive today. Anne’s dream has come true even though she is no longer with us.
